HBO's THE IDOL is set to premiere out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
The show, which stars Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) and Lily-Rose Depp, centers on “a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.” The film festival will premiere either the first two or three episodes, before the series debuts sometime in the fall.
Armenian cinematographer Arseni Khachaturan shares cinematographer credit with Marcell Rév, who shot part of the series. Arseni Khachaturan is based in New York, and his most recent project was Luca Guadagnino's BONES & ALL, released in 2022, starring Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet.
The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to run from May 16 until May 27.
