The Armenian Film Festival will return.

In September 2023, Armenian Film Society launched the Armenian Film Festival. The five-day event welcomed close to 2,000 attendees.

Between Borders

Join us for the film festival premiere of Between Borders, which tells the true story of Violetta and Ivan, a resilient Armenian couple, who seek asylum in the US after fleeing Baku in the 1980s. Haunted by displacement, they attempt to rebuild their lives in a Russian city, finding solace in a local church, but continue to face overt discrimination and threats to their family. Their pursuit of freedom and safety leads them to America, where a challenging court battle leaves their future hanging in the balance. Q&A with director Mark Freiburger, actress Elizabeth Tabish, producer Isaac Norris, and the film’s real-life subjects Ivan and Violetta Petrosyan.

Armat and The Black Garden

This screening will consist of Anna Mkrtumyan's short documentary Armat. The film follows the director, who, in search of answers, turns to science as a last hope. Embarking on a journey with Professor Cristina, their exploration centers around unraveling the mysteries of lan— probing into its essence and questioning the existence of a memory and connection between the land and its inhabitants.

The film will be followed by Alexis Pazoumian's documentary The Black Garden. Samvel and Avo, Erik and Karen live in the land of a century-old conflict, rooted in the rubble of the Russian Empire. In Nagorno-Karabakh, people live, dream and prepare for a tragedy that is always on the horizon. Over 3 years, Alexis Pazoumian films the epilogue of the black garden, a land where war waits for no one.
